1,400 kilometers in Australia
Heavy haulage down under
The Australian heavy haulage specialists from Doolan's Heavy Haulage have transported two crusher components, each weighing 160 tons, with WideCombi axle lines from Scheuerle.
Due to the low weight and low height of the transport modules, the company was able to complete the task in a short time, as it did not have to switch to special time slots. According to those responsible, the transport could not have been handled as efficiently with other equipment.
Two tractor units with a total tractive force of 500 tons and 14 WideCombi axle lines from Scheuerle were needed to transport a 160-tonne, 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.0-metre component of a crushing plant from engineering service provider RCR Tomlinson, based in Welshpool, Western Australia, to the site in a quarry. Two of these went on the road at the same time. A major international logistics company commissioned the heavy haulage professionals from Doolan's Heavy Haulage to carry out the job.
The two heavy-duty combinations had to cover around 1,400 kilometers. The design of the WideCombi axle lines had several advantages: due to the favorable distribution of the load weight on the axle lines and the relatively low tare weight as well as the low overall height of the transport vehicle, the two road trains were able to complete most of the route without a police escort or escort vehicles from an electricity supplier. In addition, the convoy was able to drive for most of the day and did not have to make use of short time slots. Only on a total of 2.5 kilometers of the tour did employees of the energy supplier have to lift power lines so that the two trucks could drive under them.
"If we had used transport equipment from local manufacturers, additional axle lines would have been needed to distribute the load properly. Due to the additional height of the transport, we would also have needed the support of an electricity supplier to drive under power lines for 250 kilometers instead of 2.5 kilometers," explains Ross Attwood from Doolan's Heavy Haulage, who was responsible for the transport.
Doolan's Heavy Haulage always relies on transport equipment from Pfedelbach. The heavy haulage company's fleet is equipped with WideCombi and InterCombi axle lines.
