ELVIS wants to research driver shortage
The European Association of International Freight Forwarders (ELVIS) wants to tackle the driver shortage with scientific support. To this end, the association and the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Stuttgart conducted a survey of around 1,000 truck drivers.
Desire for greater appreciation
The survey revealed that drivers are demanding greater appreciation for their work. They also wanted the transport companies to become more involved in public relations work, as the importance of the driving profession has not yet been emphasized enough by the companies. Another point of criticism was the conditions at shippers' ramps. Many of those surveyed see an urgent need for improvement here. In addition, opportunities for company training proved to be important for many.
"Whether a company is economically successful today is less a question of the order situation than of personnel," says Christine Platt, authorized signatory of ELVIS AG. Many transport companies are now having to cope with considerable losses in turnover due to the glaring shortage of drivers. "This makes it all the more important for local companies to present themselves as an attractive employer and to pay more attention to the wishes of drivers," says Platt.
