Container station
DB Netz replaces TIA as client
DB Netz AG has taken over the planning and construction of the container rail terminal in the GVZ Region Augsburg. Terminalinvestitionsgesellschaft Augsburg (TIA) mbH has been dissolved.
With DB Netz AG as the client, the container station is being implemented as a project with urgent requirements in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. DUSS Deutsche Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße GmbH will be responsible for its subsequent operation. A facility with two gantry cranes and 700 meters of craneable length is currently planned for the handling of containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers in combined transport.
The project is currently in the takeover phase. The planning, including all schedules and cost plans, is being reviewed. The container terminal will replace the old facility in the Oberhausen district when it goes into operation and will start with 22,000 loading units per year as things stand at present. According to the federal government's traffic forecast, an annual volume of 60,000 loading units is realistic by 2030. The facility has a maximum annual capacity of 100,000 loading units. Parallel to the planning of the container rail terminal, the GVZ Region Augsburg is pushing ahead with the development of the Intermodal Service Park for combined transport service providers on 85,000 m².
"We are registering great interest in the plots in the Intermodal Service Park. This shows how ripe the time is for a new offer in combined transport. We are therefore very pleased that DB Netz is taking the construction of the container station into its own hands," comments Ralf Schmidtmann, Managing Director of GVZ-Entwicklungsmaßnahmen GmbH.
