CO2-neutral transportation from 2020 at Kuehne + Nagel
With its new Net Zero Carbon program, Kuehne + Nagel aims to contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in transport and logistics services. In addition to the continuous reduction of its own CO2 emissions, the company offers its customers solutions to reduce the CO2 footprint in their supply chain.
CO2-neutral by 2030
Among other things, the company has decided to include the CO2 footprint of its suppliers' shipments - airlines, shipping companies and road carriers. The goal is for Kuehne + Nagel to achieve comprehensive CO2 neutrality (Scope 3 according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol) by 2030. As a first step, all groupage shipments in sea freight will be delivered CO2-neutrally from 2020.
Nature projects for CO2 reduction
The Net Zero Carbon program comprises three fields of action: carbon detection, reduction and compensation. To support customers on their way to carbon neutrality, Kuehne + Nagel has initiated its own nature projects in Myanmar and New Zealand. The company also participates in nature-based offsetting projects in which carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere. According to the company, the emission credits achieved in this way meet the highest international standards.
Dr. Detlef Trefzger, Chief Executive Officer of Kuehne + Nagel International AG, comments: "As one of the world's leading logistics companies, we take responsibility for the environment, for our ecosystem and for people. Today's announcement is based on a set of measures to tackle CO2 emissions and offer sustainable and innovative supply chain solutions - hand in hand with our suppliers and customers. We are thus supporting the goal of the Paris Agreement to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5°C."
