25 years of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

In 1995, Mercedes-Benz presented a newly developed van: the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. With each model upgrade and new generation, the Sprinter has further strengthened its good position in the field of active and passive safety.

Right from the start of development, it was clear that active and passive safety are central components of the vehicle concept. This starts with car-like handling and extends to "hard" technology such as ABS and airbags and the new generation of digital driving assistants.

Connectivity and diversity are at the heart of the third Sprinter generation 2018, but there are also new safety features: Active Distance Assist Distronic, for example, can take the strain off the driver by automatically keeping a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front from a speed of 20 km/h upwards. A radar sensor in the front bumper determines the data required for this. The system detects lane changes or braking maneuvers by other road users and can react immediately - in an emergency, Active Distance Assist can brake the Sprinter to a standstill.

Other assistance systems introduced in the new Sprinter include a reversing camera with image in the interior mirror and a parking package with 360-degree all-round visibility. A rain sensor and wipers with an integrated wet wiper system ensure optimum visibility even when the windscreen is being cleaned.
