59 Warehouse lifts ensure efficiency
TTI, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, is a leading distributor of electronic components. The Maisach-Gernlinden site plays a key role in TTI's global network. The company has been relying on Hänel's warehouse solutions for years to enable optimum warehouse and logistics processes at its European headquarters.
A total of 59 Hänel vertical lifts are currently in use at TTI's central warehouse, including 35 Hänel lean lifts and 24 Hänel multi-space 3-axis storage lifts. With their storage capacities of over 145,000 locations and their efficiency, the automatic Hänel lifts meet all the necessary requirements for on-site logistics processes. Hänel vertical lifts can be flexibly adapted to the existing space situation. In this case, the lean lifts reach heights of over 9 meters, while the multi-space storage lifts are up to 15 meters high. This means that TTI has a storage area of over 18,000 m² available in the lifts on around 9,500 containers. This requires a storage area of around 800 m².
All Hänel multi-space storage lifts at TTI are equipped with Hänel EcoDrive technology. The integrated frequency converter converts the energy of the descending extractor into electrical energy instead of just releasing it into the environment as heat. As a result, this recovered energy is fed back into the power grid and can be used elsewhere. Depending on the travel performance, up to 40 percent of the electricity previously required for the upward travel can be recovered. This leads to considerable savings and thus reduces operating costs.
Fast order processing thanks to optimized workflows
In the Hänel Multi-Space, the extractor enables containers to be retrieved quickly from all lift modules through simultaneous horizontal and vertical movement. This means that a gigantic storage volume is available at just one central dispensing point. At TTI, the picking points on the multi-space 3-axis storage lifts are designed so that one employee can pick at four picking points simultaneously. In these 4-lift groups, the stored goods are accessed from a total of twelve lift units with short walking distances. Thanks to this multi-space system advantage, even large orders can be handled with minimal manpower. The SMD components to be picked are then transported directly to the dispatch department via a conveyor belt, where they are dispatched together with other items from the customer order. This smart integration of the lifts into the overall logistics process ensures smooth workflows and short throughput times.
Flexible scalability for growing requirements
The first four Hänel lean lifts were installed back in 2010. As TTI grew, the need for additional storage capacity also increased, which led to the successive acquisition of further Hänel systems over the years. These lift systems offer numerous advantages in the reliable management and provision of SMD components. Hänel's lean lifts are designed to fit seamlessly into the existing storage space, offering maximum storage capacity in a minimum of space. The enclosed design of Hänel storage systems also reliably protects sensitive electronic components from dust, dirt and unauthorized access.
The Hänel vertical technology minimizes storage and retrieval times and, thanks to the flexible height adjustment, different stored goods can be stored in a structured and space-saving manner. The picking process on the storage lifts at TTI is standardized across all lifts so that employees can be deployed variably on all 59 lifts after a short training period.
Workplace ergonomics as a success factor
According to the company, TTI relies on the highest safety and ergonomic standards at the workplace. The vertical lifts make the picking process ergonomic. Employees can work efficiently without wasting time walking long distances or searching for items. This promotes faster order processing and increases productivity. Thanks to the comfortable access heights and intuitive operation of the lifts, physical strain is reduced, resulting in improved work safety and greater employee satisfaction.
High compression of the storage volume
All containers in the vertical lifts are stored directly on the profiles of the Hänel grid wall. The stored goods are automatically and precisely measured by height measurement light barriers for each container that leaves the unloading area. The containers at TTI have the Hänel space-saving grid and can therefore be moved onto the Hänel grid wall in steps of 37.5 mm without any loss of space. The combination of an optimum pick-up system, precise height measurement and container slotting enables compact storage without loss of space, even with different filling heights.
Tayfur Tolgay, Director EU WH Operations & Logistics, is satisfied with the installed solution: "The Hänel logistics solutions offer us maximum flexibility in the warehouse layout and enable our employees to operate up to four lifts simultaneously. The reliability of the vertical lifts, combined with excellent customer support and fast response times, has made Hänel a valuable partner for TTI for many years." In order to meet the increasing requirements, TTI will continue to expand at the Maisach site and has already ordered ten additional Hänel multi-space storage lifts.
