Storage- and racking systems: SSI Schäfer takes over order picking technology specialist ABM

Benelux, 11.08.17 - In order to further expand its engineering and software expertise in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, the world's leading system provider SSI Schaefer has acquired ABM ("Automation Beyond Measure").

With the acquisition of ABM bvba (dt. GmbH), SSI Schaefer underlines its ambition to offer an international product portfolio for intralogistics solutions.

"With ABM, we are consistently expanding our range of services in Benelux. The resulting synergies will enable us to implement holistic concepts locally in line with our corporate philosophy," says Harrie Swinkels, CEO of SSI Schäfer Automation GmbH, explaining the decision to work with the logistics and software expert. "Localization and individualization are the key to success. Together with ABM, we are even closer to our customers and also benefit from their extensive expertise in the field of customized picking solutions."

ABM was founded in 1994 as part of the Alltech Group with a strategic focus on pick-to-light subsystems. Since then, the company has expanded its range of picking technologies and keeps pace with modern technologies such as Pick to Color, Pick to Image and Pick to Label. In 2009, ABM also introduced a human-machine interface with Pick to Graphics. The PickArt concept combines smart batching, intelligent navigation, user-friendly communication and intuitive and flexible software for the optimized loading of picking trolleys. Since 2014, the team of engineers has also been developing and implementing holistic, customer-oriented solutions ranging from storage systems and transport concepts to software integration.

"Beyond Benelux, ABM serves customers in the UK, France, Spain and the Czech Republic and primarily covers the food retail, food & beverage and fashion sectors as well as expertise in e-commerce," says Jan Maertens, Managing Director at ABM. "We are convinced that we can significantly advance SSI Schaefer's local expertise and consistent market sector orientation in the Benelux. We are therefore delighted to have gained such a strong partner in both strategic and commercial terms." red/cd
