Mobile racking systems
Milchwerke Schwaben relies on optimized logistics solution from stow
A new packaging warehouse for Milchwerke Schwaben was built on the Neu-Ulm site. The company worked together with stow Germany to renew the mobile racking systems and implement a new shuttle racking system. The new racking systems were commissioned in March.
Milchwerke Schwaben has been one of the recognized manufacturers of dairy products with the "Weideglück" brand since 1922 and is represented in 70 countries worldwide. The company processes around 450 million kg of milk every year at its main production site in Neu-Ulm. Due to continuous further development, the company needed a modern dry storage facility at the Neu-Ulm site with sufficient capacity for storing packaging material and fresh products. Together with Heiko Krebs from stow Deutschland GmbH, solutions were evaluated in order to realize a state-of-the-art logistics hall.
"We opted for a shuttle racking system in addition to the mobile racking system because the flexibility and benefits of automated storage are very important to us. The warehouse should provide us with additional capacity for future growth," explains Jakob Ramm from Milchwerke Schwaben. The system concept and the racking components from stow are tailored to the optimal storage of the company's fresh products and are suitable for milk processing.
In the course of the new buildings, three Milchwerke Schwaben warehouses were completely modernized with stow storage systems. In the cheese warehouse, two older mobile racking systems were replaced with stow mobile racking systems and a new system was added for capacity reasons. In total, the stow mobile systems offer around 5,530 pallet spaces. Another mobile racking system for fresh products was installed in the fresh produce warehouse in combination with a shuttle racking system for storing milk powder with around 5,000 pallet spaces. For fire protection purposes, the mobile racking system was combined with a sprinkler system.
