Highly supported despite earthquake zone 3
Götz + Moriz, a building materials and tile retailer in South Baden, has significantly expanded its Lörrach site. The company invested in larger storage space and a new warehouse, which was equipped with pallet and cantilever racking from OHRA.
The location posed particular challenges for the racking construction: Some racks had to be erected along a slope, wind forces had to be factored in for others and earthquake zone 3 had to be taken into account for all of them. Nevertheless, frame heights of up to 9,100 millimetres with bay loads of 25,200 kilograms and shelf loads of 5,000 kilograms could be achieved. In 2016, Götz + Moriz decided to expand the Centre for Building and Modernization in Lörrach.
Previously, goods were often stored at floor level, in block storage and on platforms. Existing shelving was relatively low and only offered low weight capacities. As Lörrach is located in an earthquake zone 3, the framework and base plates of the new shelving from OHRA were calculated to safely absorb the additional loads. As all load-bearing elements of OHRA shelving are made of hot-rolled steel profiles and not sheet metal profiles, they offer a high load-bearing capacity. In addition, the uprights do not buckle under lateral loads.
As several rows of shelving in the outdoor area run at an incline, pallet racking was also designed with the supports mounted in a staircase. Spacer plates between the shelf base and the fixing plate on the floor compensate for height differences.
The racking in the warehouse, which was open on one side, also required more calculation work, as one side of the hall had a larger opening dimension than 30 percent and so wind forces had to be included in the calculation. Thanks to the new shelving systems, Götz + Moriz can now offer its customers at the Lörrach site a broader and deeper range of products.
