Cantilever racking system
High space utilization due to effective storage system
RBB Aluminium AG has built another warehouse at its main site in Wallscheid in the Eifel region, where aluminum profiles up to six meters long are stored. The core of the new building is a mobile cantilever racking system from Ohra.
The core of the logistics area of the new warehouse is a mobile cantilever racking system from Ohra: nine mobile racking rows with a length of 18.4 meters and a height of 6.36 meters allow the aluminium profiles to be stored quickly and safely on a small footprint.
The aluminum processing company in Wallscheid has invested a total of three million euros, including in a new, modern production hall. The logistics hall supplies the production with aluminum profiles and also serves as a picking and dispatch warehouse. RBB Aluminium had already equipped its storage areas with shelving from Ohra in 1996 and 2003, so it was an obvious decision to equip the new warehouse with a storage system from the Kerpen-based European market leader for cantilever racking.
Space utilization up to 100 percent higher
Cantilever racking on mobile carriages enables efficient use of space. Depending on the design, the storage capacity can be up to 100 percent higher than with a conventional, static racking system, according to the company. Ohra supplied a tailor-made solution for RBB Aluminium: each of the 6,360 millimeter high uprights carries 4,500 kilograms per side, and a row of racks is made up of twelve uprights. The suspended cantilever arms form six storage levels per rack row, with each of the 800 millimeter long arms carrying a load of up to 750 kilograms.
Fixed, single-sided cantilever racks are also mounted on the front sides of the mobile racking system. The traversing carriages for the mobile racks run on rails that have been installed in the hall floor in the floor slab.
The rack rows can be moved apart manually or by radio remote control - for example from a forklift - so that the desired aisle opens. The simple operation of the system was another reason for RBB Aluminum to choose the Ohra solution.
