Customized shelf combination as an accelerator
AR Racking has installed a combination of different storage systems for automotive transmission systems at GKN's Carcastillo plant in Spain. The spare parts warehouse is set to become a reference operation.
The multinational company GKN, headquartered in Birmingham (England), is on course for growth. A strategic investment in the plant in Navarra is intended to create a reference plant for spare parts for automotive transmission systems in Europe. Turnover is set to triple within a short space of time. The company has entrusted AR Racking with the task of implementing industrial racking systems that enable maximum efficiency in warehouse logistics operations. The racking manufacturer from Rüdesheim has installed a combination of different storage systems that adapt to different quantities of goods and the respective turnover of the products.
The palletized product is stored in narrow aisle racking (VNA racking) with a storage capacity of 5,696 pallets. This system is a variant of conventional pallet racking, but is compressed by the narrowed aisles to create a high-density storage system. It increases the storage capacity without having to increase the space.
AR Racking has installed 2,164.5 linear meters of wide span racking for the manual storage of small spare parts handled by manual picking. It is a versatile racking system that can be adapted to all types of load units and allows direct and immediate access to the stored items. For long and larger loads, the racking manufacturer has also installed a solution with cantilever racking over a total of 166.5 meters. This system is characterized by its great agility when handling goods. AR Racking has also installed a two-storey multi-level system for storing light loads. This storage solution results in a total area of 1,809 square meters due to the extended usable area at height.
"The storage systems from AR Racking meet the strictest European quality standards," says Pablo Hernando. The project manager at GKN expressed his satisfaction with the smooth and speedy planning and equipping of the warehouse. Xabier Rica, AR Racking's sales representative and project manager for the warehouse in Spain, is convinced "that GKN will be able to increase its competitiveness with the installed industrial racking and thus also improve its logistics processes."
