Cantilever racking
AK 1324: Precious metal with quick access
With new cantilever racks from OHRA, the Czech company AK 1324, a wholesaler and retailer of semi-finished stainless steel products, can access stored stainless steel sheets much more quickly.
Previously, the sheet metal packages were stored on top of each other on the hall floor, which made handling difficult and time-consuming. Today, cantilever racking from OHRA enables direct access to individual pallets, which not only creates the conditions for significantly more efficient logistics, but also considerably reduces damage to the stored sheets. In addition, storage in cantilever racking provides a quick overview of current stock levels at all times.
As a retailer and wholesaler of semi-finished stainless steel products, AK 1324 stocks a wide variety of different sheets, tubes and profiles. The cantilever racks from OHRA make it possible to store the different types of sheet metal clearly separated from each other. The sheets, which are up to 3 meters long, are stored on pallets and the packages can weigh up to 2.5 tons. Thanks to the cantilever racking, each individual package can now be stored and retrieved without having to move other sheet metal packages. This has considerably accelerated access. At the same time, damage is reduced, which previously occurred again and again during the cumbersome handling of sheet metal packages in block storage.
OHRA installed two single-sided rows of racking with lengths of 36 and 50 meters for the AK 1324 sheet metal warehouse. The cantilever racks offer eight storage levels with a stand height of 4,310 millimeters. All load-bearing elements of the OHRA racking are made of full-wall steel profiles and therefore offer a high load-bearing capacity: each cantilever arm in the AK 1324 warehouse can carry 800 kilograms, and each upright can be loaded with up to 5.6 tons. AK 1324 also sees the suspended cantilever arms as a particular advantage of OHRA racking: They can be adjusted at any time without tools, allowing AK 1324 to flexibly adapt the height of the storage levels to the thickness of the sheet metal packages and to new requirements.
OHRA not only supplied and installed the shelving, but also advised AK 1324 from the very beginning of the planning phase. This ensured that the project ran smoothly and that the new shelving units maximized storage capacity.
