With self-programmed algorithms to 1st place
viastore apprentice Felix Richter wins international competition
Felix Richter, an IT/application development apprentice at viastore, has come first out of more than 750 participants in the international online game for artificial intelligence "Terminal". This tops the 20-year-old's previous best result, which he achieved at the beginning of this year with fourth place. The competition, which is organized in the USA, is held several times a year and lasts for three months. The final is broadcast via live stream.
The game pits two opponents against each other on a diamond-shaped playing field. The aim is to reach the opposite side of the playing field with your own units and prevent your opponent from reaching your side, for example by building obstacles. To do this, the participants program intelligent algorithms that analyze the current game situation and previous moves and independently decide on their own moves. This means that the game runs completely automatically and the strength of the algorithm determines the player's success.
To win, Felix Richter further developed, tested and improved his algorithm - and even developed a program specifically for this purpose, which is superior to the standard program in terms of its functions. With the help of input from his fellow players, who support each other despite the competition, he also designed a tool that makes it easier and better to analyze games that have already been played and made it available to them. "We are delighted with Felix Richter's great result," says Jutta Nonninger, Head of People Operations at viastore. "With his commitment and talent, he fits in perfectly with us and our values and has excellent prospects for the future." Felix Richter will also be taking part again in the new season, which has already started. However, the apprentice wants to take it easy and watch his opponents first.
