Transport allocation and real-time tracking
thyssenkrupp Steel Europe expands cooperation with Transporeon
thyssenkrupp Steel Europe has been using Transporeon's Time Slot Management since 2008. The extended cooperation with Transporeon that has now been agreed allows the manufacturer to monitor deliveries to its customers outside the loading zone as well.
Thanks to real-time tracking (Real-Time Visibility - RTV), thyssenkrupp Steel Europe will be able to view and control the position of each transport in the future - similar to how the tower at an airport controls traffic and allocates its time slots flexibly for the safe execution of take-offs and landings. Precisely determined arrival times make it possible to plan the processes in the loading zone much more foresightedly than before and to handle them "just-in-time". This avoids unnecessary waiting times and minimizes costs - for example, due to unused cranes waiting for trucks. A new time slot can be allocated dynamically if a truck is delayed.
Ingo Brauckmann, CEO Logistics Services & Customer Operations at TK Steel said: "We chose Transporeon because we want to better coordinate the tracking of our deliveries and the calculation of exact arrival times. Transporeon's solution helps us to do this efficiently and cost-effectively.
Joachim Schürings, who is responsible for freight purchasing at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, added: "In addition, we can now replace our specially developed e-logistics platform, which was state of the art in the early 2000s, and thus achieve further efficiency gains."
Transporeon CEO Stephan Sieber emphasized: "Not only thyssenkrupp Steel Europe benefits from our platform. More than 100,000 carriers now also have the opportunity to receive relevant transport orders from Duisburg. In this respect, we offer a win-win situation - because shippers and carriers alike benefit from both real-time visibility and the significant network effect that Transporeon offers!"
Data-based RTV allows the transportation times of trucks to be calculated automatically in advance. In 88% of cases, the arrival time is already correctly specified six hours in advance. thyssenkrupp Steel Europe and Transporeon intend to further improve this value, which is well above average in a market comparison. To this end, the partners have agreed to jointly develop an algorithm based on artificial intelligence specifically for the needs of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe.
In future, the steel manufacturer will handle all truck deliveries via the leading international logistics platform. The Transporeon network is the largest of its kind. More than 100,000 carriers use it. As a result, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe receives the best possible offer for its orders in order to optimize its transport costs and reduce loading times. At the same time, there is no need for the internal expense of providing and maintaining a dedicated tendering platform. Transporeon simplifies freight allocation, processing and control. Over 700 trucks leave the thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG sites every day, delivering a wide range of different flat steel products to customers.
