Booming e-commerce sector
Schenker Ventures invests in warehousing1
Schenker Ventures is investing in the Berlin-based start-up Warehousing1, a provider of a platform for e-commerce fulfillment. It is the first investment by Schenker Ventures, the integrated venture capital unit of the global logistics service provider DB Schenker. In addition to Schenker Ventures, other well-known venture capital investors who have already made a name for themselves with the scaling of young e-commerce and LogTech companies are also participating in Warehousing1's Series A round.
Patric Hoffmann, Head of Schenker Ventures: "We want to promote innovation in the logistics sector. The online shopping boom we have seen during the pandemic is here to stay. Consumer brands worldwide have adapted their sales channels to the new market situation. The result is a multitude of new and diverse online shopping opportunities. Warehousing1 picks up on this trend. We are looking forward to working together with the great team at Warehousing1. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from each other."
Nils Aschmann, founder and CEO of Warehousing1: "It was important for us to gain active partners who can and want to provide us with specific expertise from the logistics industry. We want to improve and digitize the fulfillment experience for the booming e-commerce market. We are therefore delighted that Schenker Ventures is joining us as a strategic investor."
Warehousing1 offers retailers an online platform where they can quickly and easily find suitable storage space and fulfillment services. The four-year-old start-up bundles the services of small and medium-sized logistics companies in a central network. E-commerce companies can use this platform to manage their fulfillment digitally and scale their logistics as required. The focus is on young, fast-growing D2C brands.
More than a purely financial investment
With DB Schenker's strong industry network, Schenker Ventures offers the young e-commerce fulfillment company an enormous competitive advantage. In addition to financial support, Warehousing1 also gains access to expert knowledge of online retail and consumer goods as well as warehouse logistics and IT infrastructure.
In addition to Schenker Ventures, investors acquiring or expanding a stake in the company include Aster Capital, Wille Finance, HV Capital and Base10 Partners. In total, Warehousing1 will be supported with over 10 million euros. The shareholders have agreed not to disclose details of their respective shareholdings.
Paulina Banszerus, responsible Investment Manager at Schenker Ventures: "Warehousing1 is a perfect fit for our investment strategy. The platform is aimed at a fast-growing market segment of logistics with a highly scalable digital asset-light solution. Through our network and our logistics expertise as well as the cooperation with the experienced financial investors, we want to create a competitive advantage for Warehousing1."
