There was a lot of feedback on Hapag-Lloyd's investment in the JadeWeser Port terminals in Wilhelmshaven(we reported). JPWP realization boss Holger Banik and Economics Minister Olaf Lies also reacted.

Holger Banik, Managing Director of JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG and Niedersachsen Ports: "I am very pleased that the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd appreciates the great potential of Germany's only deep-water container port and wants to utilize it. With its modern infrastructure and the terminal operator's superstructure, JadeWeserPort offers ideal conditions for handling its large container ships. This port infrastructure now needs to be further developed in proven cooperation with Eurogate."

Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony's Minister for the Environment, Energy, Building and Climate Protection and JadeWeserPort Supervisory Board member, commented on today's decision by Hapag-Lloyd to invest in JadeWeserPort as follows: "With Hapag-Lloyd, a new, strong partner is coming on board. The investment is a tremendous opportunity for our JadeWeserPort. From 2023, it opens up the prospect of achieving the handling volumes that were envisaged when Germany's only deep-water port was completed. This is the news that this port urgently needs and that an entire region is waiting for. With its deep-water capability, the port fits perfectly with the requirements of the current Hapag-Lloyd fleet and the one currently under construction. What's more: I have been calling for a genuine, new German port cooperation for years. If we want to continue to play an important role in international competition, we need less 'everyone against everyone' and more cooperation. We can then construct a central player in the North Range from the respective special skills of the German ports. This news brings this cooperation a significant step closer
