Cuxport handles thousands of new cars for the Chinese market

For the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Group's deep-sea RoRo liner service from Europe to China, Cuxport loaded over 3,500 premium vehicles onto the ships "Tiger" and "Torino" at the beginning of November. Handling took place within just one week at berth 4 of the terminal. All of the cars arrived at the deep-water port by environmentally friendly rail.

From their production sites in southern Germany, the premium automobiles were transported directly by rail to the automobile handling terminals in Cuxhaven. The vehicles were delivered to Cuxhaven in close coordination with the manufacturer, the rail service providers involved and the shipping company. Cuxport then prepared the various vehicle models for shipment to three Chinese ports and took care of the necessary customs clearance.

"We have been a close partner to car manufacturers for many years when it comes to handling vehicles, especially in the premium segment, and have already handled several million new cars safely at the Cuxport terminal," says Oliver Fuhljahn, Head of Business Development Automobile Logistics at Cuxport.

In addition to its location on the Elbe, Cuxport's location advantages include the rail links via Hamburg-Maschen and Bremen, which have been improved in recent years, and three available RoRo berths.

The port terminal operator's RoRo services in the deep sea business are also in demand in times of coronavirus: "The economy in China has recovered and the demand for German quality vehicles is high. We are therefore very confident that further liner departures and routes in deep-sea RoRo traffic will take place via Cuxport," reports Oliver Fuhljahn.

The two deep-sea RoRo ships "Tiger" and "Torino" were managed by the agency RRS RoRo Stevedores from Bremerhaven. They call at the ports of Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangzhou, from where the vehicles are distributed within China.
