BVL founder passed away on June 10
Mourning for Dr. Hanspeter Stabenau
Dr. Hanspeter Stabenau, founding member and long-standing Chairman of the Board of the German Logistics Association (BVL), passed away in Bremen on June 10. He was 85 years old. Born in Königsberg, he was a logistics expert from the very beginning and left many traces through his work in teaching and practice. His motto in life: "You can only be successful in your job if you enjoy the task."
After completing his studies and doctorate with a focus on transportation science in Cologne, Stabenau came to Bremen in 1961 and worked for the German Foreign Trade and Transport Academy (DAV), initially as a lecturer and from 1966 as head of studies. Together with Prof. Helmut Baumgarten, Jürgen Busch, Peter Höhndorf, Dr. Gernot Lukas, Dr. Albert Schmitz, Dr. Klaus Spicher and Manfred Türks, Stabenau was one of the founders of the BVL in 1978 and Chairman of the Board of the association until 1999.
The development of the German Logistics Congress, which took place for the first time in 1984, is a milestone in his work. In order to promote logistics issues, Stabenau repeatedly brought together companies from different sectors and the scientific community. He represented the DAV and the BVL - and thus the logistics sector - on numerous committees. Stabenau was closely associated with BVL and DAV until the end. He was honorary chairman of the BVL, regularly dropped by the office in Bremen for short meetings and enthusiastically attended the German Logistics Congress in Berlin until 2017.
