Air and sea freight
Dachser sets the course
Dachser is setting the course for future growth in its Air & Sea Logistics (ASL) business field with long-term personnel decisions. Dr. Tobias Burger (45) will succeed Edoardo Podestà (60) as COO Air & Sea Logistics and member of the Management Board on January 1, 2024. Podestà will retire at the end of 2023 after a 20-year career at Dachser and just over four years at the helm of the air and sea freight division.
"With Dr. Tobias Burger, we are preparing an experienced logistics strategist to join Dachser's Executive Board. He will enrich our Executive Board team with his holistic, long-term perspective on logistics," explains Bernhard Simon, Chairman of Dachser's Board of Directors. "In addition, Dr. Burger will take over the marketing management for the entire Dachser company. This puts us in an excellent position to proactively address the complex market changes, especially in air and sea freight, and to position ourselves accordingly."
A former management consultant, Dr. Burger began his career at Dachser in 2009 in controlling and strategy development before subsequently heading up the Corporate Governance department. During this time, he was already involved in the further development of a seamlessly operating global air and sea freight network. As Deputy Director Air & Sea Logistics, Dr. Burger has acted as Edoardo Podestà's deputy since 2019. During this time, he was initially ASL's Global Sales Manager. His current responsibilities in this position include the strategic development of the entire business division. Since 2021, he has successfully managed the air and sea freight business of the ASL EMEA business unit.
Marc Meier to lead the ASL EMEA business from 1.1.2023 Dr. Burger will hand over the position of Managing Director ASL EMEA to Marc Meier on 1.1.2023. The 53-year-old joined Dachser on October 1, 2022 to prepare for the management of the regional business unit. The logistics manager, with expertise in air and sea freight, land transportation and warehousing, has more than 30 years of international professional experience in the logistics industry. As CEO, he led the Hamburg-based air freight forwarder Senator International together with the owner until the takeover by Maersk in 2021. Prior to that, he was CEO of the sea freight forwarding company Fr. Meyer's Sohn for more than five years. Meier started his career at Kuehne + Nagel, where he held various management positions, most recently as President of the Canadian country organization.
"With Marc Meier, we are gaining an experienced and internationally renowned air and sea freight manager who will successfully lead our ASL business in the EMEA region into the future," explains Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser. "The close integration with our European overland transportation network will pave the way for further growth."
Roman Müller succeeds Roman Müller in ASL APAC as of 1.1.2024
Dachser has also made forward-looking arrangements for the succession in the ASL Asia Pacific (APAC) business unit. On January 1, 2024, 41-year-old Roman Müller will succeed Edoardo Podestà, who has led the regional business unit with great success since 2014 and has been COO ASL since 2019. Born in Switzerland, Müller has spent his entire professional life to date in Asia. He can look back on a 15-year management career at Dachser, including as head of the Korean national company and sales manager for the entire APAC region. Since July 2021, he has been Deputy Director Asia Pacific, taking over from Edoardo Podestà in the ASL APAC business unit.
"Roman Müller knows the Asian markets and their requirements in detail. In his career to date, particularly in sales, he has achieved impressive successes and further developed our Asian organization," explains Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser. "He is therefore ideally placed not only to continue the outstanding development of the ASL APAC business unit, but also to take it to a new level with an even stronger focus on integrated service offerings. In close cooperation with Edoardo Podestà, Roman Müller will set the course for this in 2023."
