TX Logistik integrates deep-water port

Wilhelmshaven to be integrated into the network in 2023

TX Logistik AG (Mercitalia Group) will integrate the deep-water port of Jade-Weser-Port Wilhelmshaven into its network. The plan is to launch a new seaport hinterland transport connection between Wilhelmshaven and southern Germany from mid-January 2023. The destinations will be the rail terminals in Nuremberg and Kornwestheim.

Further terminals will follow in the first half of 2023. With the new route, TX Logistik aims to offer customers additional capacity for container transport by rail and benefit from the forecast volume growth at the Jade-Weser Port. Experts are certain that throughput will increase further in the coming year when container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd and other members of "The Alliance" shipping consortium launch the first Far East service there. In April, the EU Commission approved Hapag-Lloyd's participation in the Jade-Weser Port. However, an important prerequisite for the new connection for TX Logistik is that the railroad line between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven is double-tracked and fully electrified. With the completion of all construction work by the end of 2022, the almost 70-kilometer route can now be operated with modern electric locomotives throughout in 2023. This will ensure efficient traction and significantly improve the accessibility of the Jade-Weser-Port logistics hub for freight trains. The final detailed planning is currently underway at TX Logistik. At the same time, talks are being held with potential users of the new route, which is to be offered as part of the boxXpress production platform.
