Port of Duisburg feels economic slowdown

The global economy is cooling noticeably, which is also reflected in duisport's half-year balance sheet: Duisburger Hafen AG's container throughput is down slightly compared to the previous year.

The company's container throughput amounted to 1.96 million TEU in the first half of 2019, compared to 2.01 million TEU in the previous year. The decline is due in particular to the low Scandinavian volumes caused by safety-related restrictions in rail transport. With a share of around 55%, container handling is the duisport Group's most important goods segment.

Growth driver China business

The China business remains stable: around 35 trains a week run between duisport and various destinations in China. duisport continues to see the China business as an important growth driver and is therefore involved in China along the Belt & Road corridors.
