EDEKA's new logistics center in Oberhausen

EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr has secured this site, formerly used by RAG as a national coke and coal storage area, from logport ruhr GmbH, a joint venture between RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH and Duisburger Hafen AG, subject to final committee decisions. The site is being extensively prepared for use by logport ruhr GmbH.
"Projects such as "logport V" in Oberhausen make a decisive contribution to the continued success of structural change in the Ruhr region. "They strengthen Germany as a location for trade and logistics. And they create and secure thousands of jobs, while at the same time coal mining is preparing its final farewell," says port boss Erich Staake.
In preparation for the development plan, the city of Oberhausen will start early public participation on September 13, 2017. EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr expects construction work to start in 2018, subject to a positive development plan decision by the Oberhausen City Council and the granting of planning permission in 2018. EDEKA estimates that the construction work will take around 24 months.
"The new logistics center will play a central role in supplying the almost 1,000 EDEKA, MARKTKAUF and Trinkgut stores in the Rhine-Ruhr region. This will enable further growth in the company," says Thomas Kerkenhoff, Managing Director Logistics at EDEKA Handelsgesellschaft Rhein-Ruhr mbH.
In future, 20,000 items will be handled here every day. The connection of the new warehouse location to the nearby A3 highway is therefore one of the advantages of the Waldteich site from EDEKA's point of view. The warehouse will be accessed via a separate road that will run parallel to the highway. This will avoid additional congestion on the local roads. red
