Port of Duisburg: Container throughput remains at record level
Duisburg, 30.07.2018 - Container throughput at Duisburger Hafen AG amounted to 2.01 million TEU in the first half of the year. This maintained the record level of the previous year. However, total cargo throughput fell by six percent to 32.6 million tons in the first half of the year.
On the other hand, duisport expects further growth, particularly in the China business. Just recently, the duisport Group reached an agreement with Chongqing, a city of 30 million inhabitants and China's most important logistics hub, on cooperation within the framework of the "Belt & Road" infrastructure project. One of the aims of the project is to reduce the travel times of freight trains.
"E-commerce and business in China will be the relevant sales drivers in the future. Our investment policy in Duisburg, along the Silk Road corridor and in China itself is aimed at this," explained duisport's CEO Erich Staake.
