Seven million euros construction costs
Electrification for JadeWeserPort port railroad commissioned
The Munich-based company Rail Power Systems was commissioned with the implementation planning and construction of the electrification of the four-kilometer-long feeder line and the 16-track feeder group at JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven.
The construction work for the approximately seven million euro expansion of the infrastructure between the "Ölweiche" junction and the port will begin in the middle of the year and will be completed by the timetable change in December 2022, at the same time as the electrification of Deutsche Bahn's Oldenburg - Wilhelmshaven main line. Rail Power Systems is a general contractor for railroad infrastructure and a leading international supplier of railroad electrification and power supply systems, a subsidiary of Tianjin Keyvia Electric Co., Ltd, based in Tianjin, China, and won out over other bidders in a tendering process.
The client is Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven JadeWeserPort-Marketing GmbH & Co. KG, whose Managing Director Andreas Bullwinkel commented on the award: "This work will complete the rail infrastructure of Germany's only deep-water container port. We are delighted that the expansion measures for the entire railroad line between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven will now be completed."
Dr. Bernd Althusmann, Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven JadeWeserPort-Marketing GmbH, said: "With the upcoming electrification of the feeder line and the port railroad's pre-group, we are optimizing the rail hinterland connection for JadeWeserPort in order to be able to offer national and international customers ideal conditions by rail as well."
Background
The 16-track so-called "Vorstellgruppe" acts as a buffer between the container port and the hinterland with connections to important economic centers in Germany and the industrial regions of Northern Europe. Up to twelve full-length trains can be handled here at the same time. It is an integral part of JadeWeserPort's port railroad, which connects the port's freight traffic center and the terminal directly with the hinterland.
