Topping-out ceremony for extended spare parts warehouse
In the Hodenhagen North industrial estate - centrally located at the Walsroder triangle between Hanover, Bremen and
Hamburg - the topping-out ceremony for the expansion of a logistics center took place. From 2023, Kuehne+Nagel will bundle the global spare parts business of Vestas, a provider of sustainable energy solutions, in Hodenhagen.
The logistics property comprises around 36,500 m² GFA (gross floor area), of which around 31,000 m² is warehouse space, 4,400 m² is mezzanine space and 1,100 m² is office space. The hall will be divided into three units and has 30 dock levellers, three jumbo bridges and three ground-level ramps. Construction started in May 2022 and completion is scheduled for the end of May 2023.
The building is aiming for the highest level of sustainability certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB Platinum). Among other things, the energy-efficient construction to KfW 55 standard, an infiltration concept for rainwater on site, the provision of electric charging points for employees and the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the building all contribute to this.
A cooperation for more sustainability
From Hodenhagen, 135,000 different items for the maintenance and repair of wind turbines are stored and shipped all over the world. Axel Krichel, Member of the Management Board of Kuehne+Nagel in Germany, responsible for Contract Logistics, says: "The cooperation between Vestas and Kuehne+Nagel in Hodenhagen has been in place since 2020. The expansion of the spare parts warehouse is a signpost to a more sustainable future. Our focus is to support Vestas and its end customers to support the lifecycle of every wind turbine with the required spare part worldwide. We are proud to support Vestas in accelerating the global energy transition.
"We are very pleased to further expand our cooperation with Kuehne+Nagel as logistics partner for our global warehouse in Hodenhagen. The expansion of the warehouse will equip us for future growth and create a scalable foundation for delivering sustainable energy around the world," says Morten Schockert Nielsen, Director, Head of Global Logistics, Service Supply Chain at Vestas.
Jobs for the region
"From warehouse employees to team leaders and commercial clerks, we are still looking for various specialists to run the spare parts warehouse," report the mayor of the joint municipality, Carsten Niemann, and the mayor of Hodenhagen, Ralph Beckmann. "This is very good news for our local economic area. We are also very proud that the expansion of the local Vestas spare parts warehouse will also increase the global importance of this business location and that Hodenhagen itself will be significantly linked to the all-important energy transition."
