IP Gansow advises Senator International Logistics on floor cleaning

Senator International Logistics GmbH took the move to its new location in Hamburg as an opportunity to fundamentally rethink the cleaning of the hall floors. The cleaning machine manufacturer IP Gansow provided advice and support. Particular attention was paid to dust pollution and its effects on the overall warehouse cleaning situation.

Senator International Logistics GmbH operates three locations in Germany with a total of 20,000 square meters of warehouse space, two of which are in Hamburg. In one of its Hanseatic warehouses, the company manages the logistics of merchandising and promotional items for a major soft drinks supplier. With 30 employees, it ensures a precise, efficient and clean storage and shipping process. The goods, which are often delivered from Asia, are picked and then dispatched to end consumers such as beverage outlets or events on call. In order to do even better justice to these complex tasks, the company moved into a new property within the Hamburg city limits with a storage area of around 10,000 square meters. Underfloor heating was installed across the entire area in the modern poured concrete flooring in order to generate a pleasant room atmosphere at all times. The investment in this new property was to be safeguarded in the future by strategically aligned building cleaning.

Two work steps cost too much time

In the past, the warehouse was cleaned in two operations using a vacuum sweeper and a ride-on scrubber-dryer. However, this cleaning process was not productive enough for those responsible. The cleaning process, which was divided into two work steps, took too much time for the enlarged open area of around 5,000 square meters. The employees needed a total of five hours in the morning and evening. After they had swept the area to be cleaned with the vacuum sweeper, there was often not enough time to carry out the second cleaning step with the scrubber dryer.

"With the combined ride-on cleaning machine from the Professional Line production series, Senator was able to save 50 percent of the cleaning time because it sweeps and wet scrubs in a single pass." Ingo Heitmann, IP Gansow

The terminal manager in Hamburg, Martin Neumann, turned to IP Gansow GmbH in Unna. Following an on-site analysis with a subsequent profitability calculation, Ingo Heitmann, Sales Manager Germany North/Key Account Management, recommended the CT 230 BF 100 R Sweep. What was planned "at the green table" was subsequently confirmed in a practical test. It was found that the CT 230 BF 100 R Sweep met the requirements for cleaning quality and that the cleaning process could be carried out more quickly: "With the CT 230 BF 100 R Sweep from the Professional Line production series, we were able to save around 50 percent of the cleaning time because it sweeps and wet scrubs in a single operation," explains Ingo Heitmann.

Two in one

The combination of vacuum sweeping and wet scrubbing now removes more types of dirt, coarse dirt, lying dust and adhering dirt from tire abrasion or packaging in one cleaning process. This creates a permanently clean environment for employees and customers. It was important for the new combined cleaning machine to be quick and easy to operate by all employees without any problems and to produce a high-quality cleaning result with a high area performance.

The term "sweep" for the CT 230 BF 100 R Sweep ride-on cleaning machine refers to the combination of sweeping, wet scrubbing and subsequent removal of the soiling in a single operation. This prevents dust from being whirled up into the room air during the cleaning process and settling on the stored goods or having a harmful effect on employees' health. With a working width of 1,000 mm, it achieves a theoretical area performance of 8,000 m2/h. At Senator International Logistics, this has reduced the cleaning time to 2.5 hours.

The side brushes sweep the coarse dirt into the middle lane, where dirt and dust are bound with water, the coarse dirt is sucked into the sweepings container via two counter-rotating scrubbing rollers and the fine sludge into the dirty water tank. The central position of the driver's seat and the compact, low design ensure unobstructed all-round visibility to the front and rear. Even employees with disabilities can operate the cleaning machine safely and easily.

Without puddles

The patented Self Levelling System generates an automatically controlled and constant contact pressure of the rollers on uneven floors. This guarantees a uniform cleaning result without leaving behind any dirt valleys.

A squeegee allows the dirt to be picked up immediately after scrubbing without leaving any residue. A suction motor ensures that no puddles remain on the cleaned floor covering. Martin Neumann is more than satisfied: "Every employee can now carry out a cleaning process in the morning and evening without having to worry about the time required. We can send our goods to our customers clean and dust-free, even after long periods of storage."
