Optimum transportation of long goods with Hubtex
Long, heavy and sensitive goods place special safety requirements on gentle transport logistics. In combination with limited storage space and narrow rack aisles, conventional sideloaders quickly reach their limits. For this reason, Groen & Janssen invested in four Hubtex multidirectional sideloaders within two years and used them to optimize its material flow.

Groen & Janssen, based in Georgsheil, East Frisia, was founded in 1962 as a timber trading company and employs around 200 people. In 1991, the business model was developed that saw the medium-sized company split into wood and plastics sales. Both divisions operate within the parent company Groen & Janssen. Groen & Janssen GmbH Kunststoffvertrieb is one of Germany's leading suppliers of plastic and composite products for the home and garden.
The product range includes horticultural elements, such as decking boards or wind and privacy screens, as well as roller shutters and external venetian blinds and materials for house and façade construction. Groen & Janssen GmbH Holz-Türen-Platten, on the other hand, operates as a timber wholesaler and retailer primarily in northern Germany and supplies the trade and building materials trade with products for interior fittings and the classic timber trade. The extensive product range extends from interior doors and floor coverings to panel materials and sawn timber.
Short delivery time with high quality
In 2014, Groen & Janssen GmbH Holz-Türen-Platten decided to set up a new location with an experience exhibition and air-conditioned warehouse in Leer, around 40 km from Georgsheil, in order to meet the demand for modern product presentation and high-quality storage in the wood sector. Due to the limited building space, the retailer implemented shelving systems with a height of 7.50 m.
"For 35 years, Hubtex has therefore also stood for fast and reliable service." stores wood products such as panel materials and sawn timber in Leer.Fred Raske Branch Manager North at Hubtex
The decision for a new logistics strategy was incorporated into the planning of the warehouse: In order to increase the storage capacity in the new hall, the company decided to use multidirectional sideloaders instead of the front loaders that had been used until then. "Due to our new logistics concept, we needed vehicles that could transport long and heavy loads in narrow aisles and store and retrieve goods in our new racks at a height of up to 7.50 m instead of the previous 4 m," reports Renko Schoon, Project Manager at Groen & Janssen GmbH Holz-Türen-Platten. "We opted for the Hubtex multidirectional sideloaders because of the short delivery time and the comprehensive advice and support." To maximize the availability of the equipment, the manufacturer offers a special service: Servicing and maintenance work, repairs with original spare parts and annual safety checks are all part of the package. "Industrial trucks are often key pieces of equipment. If multidirectional sideloaders break down, the entire operation often comes to a standstill," explains Fred Raske, Branch Manager North at Hubtex.
Safe transportation of special goods

Around 11,500 different items are stored in the almost 2,500 m2 warehouse in Leer, including large and heavy panel materials, sawn timber and break-sensitive doors with light cut-outs. These can be picked from the high racks using the electric multidirectional sideloaders from Hubtex. At Groen & Janssen GmbH Holz-Türen-Platten, a Hubtex MQ 40 multidirectional sideloader (Series 2130) is one of the trucks in use. This has a usable width of 2.20 m and can be used to transport panels measuring up to 5 m x 2.10 m. A smaller second-hand MQ 35 (Series 2125) is also in use.
The new logistics strategy also included planning the transportation of plastic products in the newly built production halls of Groen & Janssen GmbH Kunststoffvertrieb in Georgsheil. The electrically operated Hubtex DQ 30 E four-way stacker (3120 series) is responsible for this: With a lifting height of 4.5 m and a load capacity of 3 t, it masters order picking from the high racks. Another industrial truck has also been in use in the new halls of Groen & Janssen GmbH Kunststoffvertrieb since the beginning of 2016: the Hubtex MQ 30 multidirectional sideloader (series 2121) is suitable for the narrowest aisle widths thanks to its design.
Conclusion
By switching to multidirectional sideloaders, Groen & Janssen was able to equip the two warehouses with narrow aisles and high racking. As a result, Groen & Janssen operates particularly successfully with the help of Hubtex multidirectional sideloaders, as the sophisticated logistics strategy ensures material flow, saves investment costs and achieves safe handling.
