Skype inventory with auditor

Since mid-March, customers and auditors no longer need to be on site at the logistics centers to take stock. The logistics service provider GROUP7 offers stocktaking via Skype at all warehouse locations in Germany covering more than 220,000 square meters.

A Skype inventory is carried out in the following steps: Once the main inventory count has been completed, the count results are transmitted electronically to the respective auditor. The auditor then selects certain items as random samples. In the next step, Group7 organizes a video conference in which the individual storage locations of the items are visited in order to provide physical proof of the pre-determined number. "We have been working hard on this solution to enable our customers to carry out solid annual inventories even during the coronavirus crisis," explains Günther Jocher, CEO of Group7 AG.

Group7 carried out the first Skype inventory at the Kelsterbach logistics center near Frankfurt. "We were faced with a dilemma: on the one hand, a traditional inventory was not possible due to the coronavirus regulations. On the other hand, postponing the inventory count due to the end of the financial year was also out of the question," explains Hubert Borghoff, Head of Logistics and authorized signatory at GROUP7. A solution was quickly found together with the customer and the auditor. The logistics service provider's experience with innovative mobile data collection helped. "This accelerated the development of our solution via Skype," Borghoff continues. Group7 AG uses drones in narrow aisles as another innovative method in the field of inventory.

New inventory processes are not the only challenges that customers are currently approaching Group7 with. "Especially in the current difficult times of Corona, we offer logistics solutions and additional storage space throughout Germany flexibly and at short notice in our modern multi-user warehouses," concludes Jocher.
