Nikola, Iveco and OGE plan to expand hydrogen infrastructure

Nikola Corporation, Iveco and OGE have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The partners are planning a joint business model for the pipeline transportation of hydrogen for FCEVs from various production sites to hydrogen filling stations. The first step will be to define and formalize the roles and responsibilities of the partners and the principles of cooperation needed to achieve the objectives to be defined in final agreements.

As part of their commitment to building a hydrogen economy, the partners are focusing on building the necessary transportation and refueling infrastructure to ensure that hydrogen is available to truck owners.

"Nikola is committed to implementing and advancing the production, distribution and supply of hydrogen with industry-leading concepts," said Pablo Koziner, President Energy and Commercial at Nikola. "We believe that this collaboration offers a compelling long-term solution for refueling station infrastructure that will strengthen the acceptance of FCEV technologies in the industry and the market as a whole."

"The introduction of hydrogen and battery-powered heavy commercial vehicles will change the transportation ecosystem. The current business models along the value chain will also change," says Gerrit Marx, President Commercial & Specialty Vehicles, CNH Industrial. "Our collaboration is a great first step towards more partnerships to make this a reality here in Europe. This requires entrepreneurial, innovative thinking beyond the boundaries of fossil-based industrial structures."

"OGE is committed to building a pipeline infrastructure for transporting hydrogen from the production sites to the important network exit points," says Dr. Thomas Hüwener, Technical Managing Director of OGE. "We are proud to play a key role in the development of hydrogen filling stations with our transport network and to be able to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy in this way."
