Kögel equips vehicle fleet
100 new cargo coils for Van Steenbergen
Van Steenbergen Transport from Arendonk in Belgium is refreshing its fleet with 100 new Cargo Coil of the Novum generation from Kögel. They will be used for transporting coils and slit strips, as well as for transporting textiles and foodstuffs.
The forwarding company, which specializes in FTL and LTL transport, provides its customers with just-in-time transport with its own trailers throughout Europe and also offers the option of interim or long-term storage with a capacity of 12,000 square meters.
Van Steenbergen's fleet currently consists of more than 600 Kögel trailers. The freight forwarder uses the new trailers not only for transporting coils and slit strips, but also for transporting textiles and foodstuffs. With an unladen weight from around 6,650 kilograms in the basic configuration, the Cargo Coil still has sufficient payload reserves.
The Kögel Cargo Coil semi-trailers of the Novum generation have a stable, torsionally rigid welded frame with inserted cross members, which is designed for a maximum line load of 30 tons at 1.5 meters in the payload centre of gravity. Instead of the standard 7,200-millimetre-long coil trough, Van Steenbergen has opted for the optionally available 9,000-millimetre-long coil trough. Coils and slit strips with a diameter of 900 to 2,100 millimetres can be transported in the coil troughs.
Load securing
For load securing, eight pairs of optional stanchion pockets for holding square tubular stanchions are arranged in the coil recess instead of the standard two pairs. The new outer frame profile greatly increases the accessibility of the Vario-Fix lashing points, making it possible to lash the load in the Vario-Fix perforated steel outer frame when the tarpaulin is closed and in conjunction with the optionally available drop sides. The 13 pairs of lashing brackets included as standard are equipped with side grip hooks for easier handling, five pairs with a tensile force of 2,500 kilograms per bracket and eight pairs with a tensile force of 4,000 kilograms per bracket in the area of the payload's center of gravity.
20 coil trough covers are designed to ensure that the coil trough is covered and uncovered quickly and safely. The floor load-bearing capacity of the coil trough covers is designed for high forklift axle loads of up to 5,460 kilograms. The cargo coil trailers have the DIN EN 12642 Code XL load securing certificate.
Protection against damage
Van Steenbergen has also opted for other optional accessories. A two millimetre thick and 1,250 millimetre high galvanized steel plate is fitted to protect the inside of the front wall from damage during daily use. The rear of the vehicles is equipped with reinforced steel bumpers for increased collision protection. An eight-millimetre-thick transverse steel bracket across the entire width and a locking cam guard in the middle of the frame end plate also provide impact protection. Other special equipment includes a steel light carrier, a tire pressure monitoring system, side and roof tarpaulins in an anti-vandalism design and much more.
On Kögel Cargo-Coil trailers, the entire vehicle frame is sustainably protected against corrosion by Nano-Ceramic technology plus KTL coating with subsequent UV painting.
