Editorial Material flow SPEKTRUM 07/2017
Change and manage!
Technical terms such as "change management" fill books. And you can play with them. Change, management. Change and manage! The latter could become the motto for managers in the intralogistics industry. Why? First of all, change is in full swing. Driven by technology (I'll spare you the list of buzzwords such as 4.0, IoT, "the eleventh space-time dimension of logistics self-evidence", as our friend Intra Logistik called it in her column in issue 11-12/16). Technology is driving change, but so is mergeritis. Most recently Toyota and Vanderlande, previously Kion and Dematic, the Körber Group and Inconso (et al...) and in 2015 Jungheinrich and MIAS. The trend towards expansion is unbroken. And because intralogistics will become increasingly important in the coming years, it will stay that way. Intralogistics is sexy for anyone who is involved in business management. The "change" is now followed by the management of developments. Disruptive technologies are called that because, unfortunately, they also upset established and traditional companies. Mergers also have the unpleasant side effect that once the ink is dry, it is necessary to separate what remains (independent) and what does not - geographically, thematically and, last but not least, in terms of personnel. This is because employees sometimes react insecurely to euphoric statements in press releases and want to arrive in the better world of intralogistics in the 21st century. If you now add to this, for example, the aspect of the shortage of skilled workers, you can guess what challenges managers are facing. I hope you enjoy reading this issue, Materialfluss will be published again after the summer break on September 21 with issue 8-9/17.
