Editorial Material Flow 01-02/2017

Everything at the beginning

With every new year, a jolt goes through our country and its inhabitants: everything should be done better and if not better, then at least differently. And if not different, then at least something should be done. Lose weight, meditate, do more sport, have fewer meetings and so on. Reality usually catches up with us even before the first issue of Materiafluss arrives in your mailbox.

Personally, I don't believe in this collective nonsense, but rather in re-evaluations, for which the beginning of the year is ideal. Pause for a moment, switch on your brain: Where does my project stand, where do I stand, where should the journey even go? Only then, if at all, do resolutions follow. Let's take CeMAT as an example: the press conference in mid-January aroused curiosity about the concept, which must unite ambition ("world's leading trade fair") and reality (May and June 2016, the only thing missing were bales of straw that would have been blown through the streets by the wind) in 2018. New trade fair boss Dr. Jochen Köckler is not free to make another attempt. The industry expects the foundations for this to be laid this year. Companies like to plan trade fair visits for the long term. And then also with a brilliant slogan, please. As always, material flow columnist Intra Logistik has a very amusing take on the "bullshit bingo" in the search for a slogan on page 58.

The editorial goals for Materialfluss this year are to work on new journalistic formats inside and outside the magazine, and you can also expect something new for the presentation of markt.materialfluss.de and the associated data collection.

You can read Material Flow again on March 8 with issue 3/17 - which, as usual, provides comprehensive information about LogiMAT and the most exciting applications and products there.
