Storage and retrieval machines
Insulation supplier relies on warehouse automation
Rockwool, a leading supplier of rock wool insulation materials, has commissioned Swisslog to implement a fully automated high-bay warehouse at its production site in Neuburg an der Donau. With this investment, the company is driving forward the modernization of its logistics and reducing manual processes.
With 51 production sites in more than 40 countries and around 12,200 employees worldwide, Rockwool is growing continuously. At the continuously operated site in Neuburg, an automated solution with high performance was needed to efficiently support the new production line. Swisslog's integrated automation should provide the necessary efficiency, flexibility and reliability for Rockwool's growing requirements. This should eliminate the need for external storage areas and minimize manual intervention. In addition, the new automated warehouse will enable completely contact-free management of production pallets in the future. It also shortens truck loading times, increases delivery quality and significantly reduces dependence on forklift trucks.
Eight double-deep storage and retrieval machines and automated conveyor technology
The automation specialist Swisslog will implement a fully integrated logistics solution including a high-bay warehouse with 35,000 pallet spaces and a total capacity of 53,000 euro pallets. Eight Vectura S40 double-deep storage and retrieval machines and a fully automated ProMove pallet conveyor system will be used, which will be seamlessly integrated into the existing picking and packing area. The scope of the project also includes structural measures above the floor slab, roof and façade cladding, technical building equipment and fire protection systems. In future, the entire operation will be controlled by Swisslog's SynQ warehouse management software, which ensures seamless coordination and transparency in real time.
"The early involvement of Swisslog in our budget phase immediately gave us the feeling that we were in the right hands. Swisslog not only understood our operational requirements, but translated them into a solution that ideally supports our long-term orientation - with noticeably more efficiency, significantly less manual intervention and a clear step towards holistic automation," explains Oliver Mohr, Project Manager at Rockwool.
"Our collaboration with Rockwool is an outstanding example of partnership in action. It is based on mutual trust, common goals and a deep understanding of the requirements and expectations of each individual. In an open and ambitious dialog, we challenge each other and consistently focus on sustainable impact in all areas of this extensive investment project. We are proud to be able to contribute our logistics and technological know-how to a solution that not only addresses Rockwool's future requirements, but will also serve as a central solution in the entire logistics network and thus have a positive impact on Rockwool's overall supply chain performance," says Sven Borghoff, Vice President Sales - Integrated Solutions EMEA Central at Swisslog. Construction at the Neuburg site is scheduled to start in February 2026.
