Eurogate optimizes transport processes at the Port of Hamburg

Eurogate Intermodal (EGIM) continues to optimize transport logistics within the congested port of Hamburg.

The app, which was presented for the first time in March 2015, simplifies route planning for local transport in and around the Port of Hamburg, taking into account current market requirements, particularly with regard to the slot booking process. The app communicates directly with the driver's smartphone via push message and assigns them journeys.

The TRoad update, which EGIM developed together with the HITeC (Hamburger Informatik Technologie Center e.V.) department at the University of Hamburg, simplifies the scheduling and control of truck transports. Until the first introduction of TRoad, drivers still had to rely on the port radio and accept empty runs in order to pick up the papers for their next tour from the dispatch office. With the new TRoad, an automated algorithm now calculates the most efficient transport solution for the respective order.

This is done on the basis of past journeys and the current traffic situation, so that the most suitable driver in terms of time, location and organizational aspects (e.g. transport of hazardous goods, driver qualifications) is determined from all connected companies. Availability and necessary chassis changes are also taken into account. This enables EGIM to make optimum use of the Port of Hamburg's slot booking process and at the same time contributes to increasing the efficiency of this system.

TRoad was initially developed to optimize internal processes at EGIM. Due to its high potential for increasing the efficiency of transport processes, the application is now also available to third parties via EGIM's IT department. Customers also have the option of integrating their data flows directly into the EGIM system via digital interfaces. Lars Hedderich, Managing Director of EGIM, explains: "With TRoad, we offer our partners a complete digital package that connects all transport processes and creates synergies. These processes are a win-win situation - for EGIM, haulage companies and drivers. With the new TRoad, EGIM is once again consolidating its position as a driver of digitalization in combined transport."
