Intra Logistik: LogiMAT has gambled itself away
I would never have believed that I would ever say that: The Hannover Messe organizers are doing a good job. They communicate clearly, in good time and transparently - and postpone the Hannover Messe to July at the very moment when everyone notices that coronavirus is coming to Germany.
Even in March, they don't hesitate to cancel the July date because everyone is beginning to realize the extent to which the virus is affecting social life in Germany. Thanks to Hanover, exhibitors and visitors know where they stand as early as possible - and don't have to invest unnecessarily in stand construction, planning, organization and travel.
I would never have believed that I would one day say this: LogiMAT, go to Hanover and learn. You gambled, unsettled your visitors and gambled away your exhibitors' money. You seriously thought you could pull off the event by asking every visitor whether they had been to Italy or China in the last 14 days? You thought you could sort it all out with a few bottles of Sagrotan? Was it ... let's call it ... business sense? Or naivety? You only stopped insisting that the trade fair take place when exhibitors were leaving the sinking ship in droves (as extensively as researched alone on www.materialfluss.de)- and when almost half of the other trade fair stands had already been set up and all costs were due.
Dear LogiMAT, you needed a health authority and a public order office to tell you not to hold the trade fair - instead of making a courageous decision for your exhibitors and visitors at the earliest possible time. Light & Building in Frankfurt, Metav in Düsseldorf and pretty much every other event that would have taken place during LogiMAT week in Germany managed to do this, except for you and soccer. The exhibitors are pissed off, and you've also lost a lot of standing with visitors because of your procrastination. LogiMAT, look to Hanover, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt and learn. You have been successful with this method so far.
