Logistics service provider
Volker Weidemann takes over management of Hermes Fulfilment in Ansbach
Volker Weidemann (39) has been Operations Manager at Hermes Fulfilment in Ansbach, Bavaria, where a 76,000 square meter logistics center is currently being built, since 15 January 2019. In this role, he is responsible for the warehouse logistics handling of furniture, large electrical appliances and other bulky goods. The ground-breaking ceremony took place in October last year and completion is planned for early 2020.
Volker Weidemann brings with him extensive industry experience, which he gained at various logistics service providers. Before joining Hermes Fulfilment, the Franconian-born manager worked for two and a half years at Rhenus in the Warehousing Solutions division as branch manager in Nuremberg. He previously worked at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics as branch manager and helped to set up the new Nuremberg branch in this role. At Kühne + Nagel, Volker Weidemann was responsible for contract logistics in Nuremberg as department manager.
What the 39-year-old particularly likes about his new role at Hermes Fulfilment in Ansbach is the mixture of project management and development work: "When do you ever get the chance to help shape a completely new, ultra-modern location? I didn't have to think long about accepting the job offer," emphasizes the state-certified business economist with a focus on logistics. Creating attractive conditions to attract motivated employees to the state-of-the-art logistics center is at the top of his agenda. The search for skilled workers is to begin in the summer. Jobs need to be filled in both the industrial and commercial areas as well as in IT. Up to 600 new jobs will be created at the logistics center.
The planned building complex comprises two halls with a total area of around 76,000 square meters. As in Löhne in North Rhine-Westphalia, warehousing and goods handling will be concentrated at one location. Hermes Fulfilment will take over the storage and picking of large items on an area of 53,000 square meters. Attached to the warehouse will be a 15,000 square meter main handling base, which will be operated by sister company Hermes EinrichtungsService. From there, large items such as sofas, washing machines and flat-screen televisions will first be distributed to the depot locations and then sent on their way to the customers using two-man handling. A further 8,000 square meters are planned for offices, social rooms and technical facilities for both companies. "With the new logistics center in Ansbach, we are creating optimal conditions for modern, fast logistics with one thing in mind above all: end customer satisfaction," says Volker Weidemann.
