Cold chain acquisitions
UPS expands capacities in the healthcare sector
UPS announces the acquisition of Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL. The two companies are providers of complex logistics solutions for the healthcare sector based in Germany.
Once the acquisition is complete, UPS will enhance its end-to-end capabilities across Europe for UPS Healthcare customers who increasingly require temperature-sensitive and time-sensitive logistics.
"Rapid developments in the pharmaceutical industry are creating a need for more integrated refrigerated and frozen supply chains," said Kate Gutmann, UPS Executive Vice President (EVP) and President International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions. "With the acquisition of Frigo-Trans, we are expanding our portfolio for our customers and accelerating our development into the world's leading provider of complex logistics solutions for the healthcare industry."
The Frigo-Trans and BPL network includes temperature-controlled storage facilities covering six temperature zones from cryopreservation (-196°C) to ambient temperature (+15° to +25°C). In addition, the company offers Europe-wide cold chain transportation solutions as well as temperature-controlled and time-critical forwarding services. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, subject to customary regulatory reviews and approvals.
