UPS celebrates 40 years in Germany on August 16. For the company, which was founded in Seattle, USA, in 1907, it was the first step beyond the borders of North America and at the same time the starting signal for its global expansion. United Parcel Service began operations in Germany with 120 parcel vehicles and 211 employees. The drivers delivered 1,150 parcels on the first day. A lot has changed in 40 years; there are now around 4,200 vehicles and the number of UPS branches has risen to 97. There are over 3,000 UPS locations where recipients can pick up packages or drop off returns. UPS currently employs over 18,000 people in Germany.

"We look back proudly on 40 successful years. Germany is the largest single market for UPS outside the USA," says Frank Sportolari, Chief Representative UPS Germany. "Above all, our dedicated and service-oriented employees are crucial to our success. With our reliable and innovative shipping solutions, we have become an established partner for corporate logistics for many customers. For cities and municipalities, UPS has positioned itself as a partner when it comes to developing sustainable solutions for inner-city transportation."

To celebrate this, UPS is involved as a sponsor of various sporting events. On August 14, UPS supported the Supercup final between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cologne Marathon on October 2, the 40th kilometer of the marathon will be under the patronage of UPS. UPS is also taking over the logistics of the sporting event, allowing runners to drop off their bags at the start and pick them up again at the finish.
