Spedition Ihro celebrates and grows

The medium-sized forwarding group Ihro celebrated its 60th anniversary in September and is once again on course for growth in its anniversary year, particularly with the further expansion of warehouse logistics.

"Five years ago, we started to expand our modest warehouse facilities in a targeted manner," says Kai Ihro, Managing Partner of the family-run forwarding group. "Today, we operate warehouse logistics at five locations in our region on a total area of around 20,000 square meters. In October, we will be adding a further 6,700 square meters of warehouse space at one location." Ihro already has another logistics project in development in case this increase of a good 30 percent is not enough. "We have purchased another 17,000 square meters of land at our headquarters in Neuenstein. Another 8,200 square meters of logistics warehouse can be built there," says Ihro.

Since its foundation, the company has specialized in transporting particularly long or wide goods, so-called jumbo transports. To this day, these form the basis for the volume transports of the fleet, which has now grown to 225 trucks. The second mainstay of the forwarding company is timed automobile transports. Ihro delivers products to car manufacturers at precisely defined times and in a precisely defined sequence. Experts refer to this as just-in-time or just-in-sequence. "Sometimes we store the products ourselves, sometimes we collect them from suppliers," explained Kai Ihro. "In any case, our trucks are fully utilized on the outward and return journeys." The empty containers are transported on the return journey. In addition to warehouse logistics, regional transport has become the fourth mainstay in recent years. "We have built up a full load network within a radius of around 150 kilometers around Heilbronn. "These transports now involve 30 of our trucks every day."
