45 million euros for new DPD site
New DPD parcel sorting center near Augsburg
The parcel and express service provider DPD has opened a new parcel sorting center in Aichach near Augsburg. The company has invested around 45 million euros to build a new 53,500 square meter depot in the "Acht 300" business park in the town of Aichach and the municipality of Dasing.
In the initial start-up phase, 36,000 parcels will be handled on site every day. In the final phase, up to 93,000 parcels are to be processed. The old site in Augsburg will be closed when the new depot goes into operation.
Prepared for growth
"With this new building we have constructed another modern and efficient parcel sorting center in the economically strong south. As a result, we are ideally prepared for the continuous growth of online trade," said Thomas Ohnhaus, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at DPD Germany. "When building our new depot, we focused on sustainability and innovation. For example, we have created an excellent infrastructure so that we can also use electric vehicles here at the site in future."
Climate-neutral site
Together with its partner LIST Bau Bielefeld, DPD has built a logistics site to modern standards. Four loading halls, an unloading hall and a separate three-storey office building have been built on 30,000 square meters. Energy-efficient LEDs were used for the lighting. DPD's environmental and energy management system is certified in accordance with the DIN 14001 standard, and DPD Germany committed itself to completely climate-neutral parcel transportation back in 2012.
The new building in Aichach will initially serve the same delivery area as the previous Augsburg depot. The parcel sorting centers in Neufahrn in the east and Nuremberg in the north will gradually be relieved by the newly created capacities.
