Logistics center
Greiwing focuses on renewable energies
Greiwing is intensifying its commitment to the plastics processing industry and expanding its plastics handling capacities at the Wesel site. A symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on January 12 marked the start of the extensive construction work. The logistics service provider is building a new logistics center with an attached silage facility on the 4,500 square meter site right next to its existing location.
With the expansion, the company now has a total of 14,150 pallet spaces. The new building sets standards in terms of sustainability. It is an efficiency house 40 EE. In addition, the entire electricity requirement is covered by a photovoltaic system. The measure will create eleven new jobs, meaning that Greiwing will employ 55 people in Wesel when the building is completed in August 2023.
"By expanding our capacities in Wesel, we are responding to the increasing demand from the plastics processing industry. On the other hand, we are aiming to meet the demands and requirements of our customers and clients even better and more efficiently in the future," says Jürgen Greiwing, Managing Partner. After 2014, this is already the second comprehensive expansion of the Wesel site. In 2010, the logistics service provider opened Germany's only granulate technology center there.
The new logistics property will consist of a hall with a total floor area of 2,500 square meters. The service portfolio includes storage, sorting, homogenization and drying as well as packaging, palletizing and labelling. The logistics service provider will also handle the transfer of bulk goods from sacks, octabins, drums or big bags into road silos in separate silage lines.
The building is constructed on the basis of KfW guidelines and requires only 40% of the primary energy of a comparable building. The fact that at least 55% of the energy required for heating and cooling comes from renewable energies means that it achieves the Efficiency House 40 EE class. A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the hall to supply the entire facility and the charging stations for the electric forklift trucks with self-sufficient electricity. In addition, an air-to-water heat pump will be installed for efficient heat distribution. "As a family business, it goes without saying that we always take sustainability into account when planning a new building and implement as many measures as possible to reduce our carbon footprint," says Greiwing.
The construction project is being realized in collaboration with Brüninghoff GmbH & Co KG from Heiden. Tobias Krützkemper, Head of Business Unit Commercial Construction at Brüninghoff: "Sustainable construction is one of the core topics of our group of companies. We are delighted that we are able to impress customers such as Greiwing logistics for you GmbH with our expertise time and time again and implement construction projects together."
