The logistics service provider Carousel Logistics has published a study on the impact of Brexit on logistics. Logistics managers from 80 manufacturing companies in Germany and the UK were surveyed for the white paper.

The aim of the analysis was to clarify how well companies are preparing for Brexit and what developments they expect in the post-Brexit period. It emerged that the German companies surveyed were significantly more confident about Brexit than their British counterparts. For example, 69% of the German logistics companies surveyed expect the business climate to remain good after Brexit. However, the study revealed a backlog in preparations for the UK's exit from the EU: around half of the companies in both countries stated that they had not yet started to prepare their supply chain for Brexit. In addition, just under half of the respondents in both countries stated that they were unclear about what precautions should be taken for Brexit. According to the study, various companies (27 percent in the UK, 21 percent in Germany) are considering moving parts of their supply chain from the UK to continental Europe.

Optimism prevails

In general, however, respondents were largely confident about Brexit. Companies from both countries are generally optimistic that they will have enough time to make the necessary preparations for Brexit. In addition, the British companies surveyed in particular see Brexit as an opportunity to re-evaluate and adapt their supply chain processes. They expect this to lead to an improvement in customer service.
