Logistics service provider honored
Dachser receives German CSR Award 2018
Logistics service provider Dachser has been awarded the German CSR Prize in the "Civil Society Commitment" category at the German CSR Forum.
Bernhard Simon, CEO Dachser SE, and Edgar Marsh, Chairman of the Executive Committee of terre des hommes Germany, accepted the award from the chair of the jury for this category, Brigitta Wortmann, spokesperson for the Federal Network for Civic Engagement.
"From education to sustainability" is the motto under which Dachser has been working with the children's aid organization terre des hommes in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh since 2005: for children's rights, access to education and vocational training, and the preservation of ecological livelihoods. The focus of support is on groups of children and young people who are committed to helping themselves to build their own future. Dachser and terre des hommes launched the first youth exchange project in 2017 to make this social commitment tangible for employees and the wider public.
This took five Dachser trainees to the project areas in Uttar Pradesh. In return, five young Indians visited Germany and actively participated in the "This is how home works" action week organized by Dachser, terre des hommes, the theater in Kempten and the city of Kempten. A variety of cultural events brought together different concepts of home - using the Allgäu and India as examples. In the meantime, Dachser and terre des hommes have launched a second networking project with Dachser young professionals, students from the terre des hommes network and a youth group from Livingstone, Zambia.
In her laudatory speech, Brigitta Wortmann addressed the necessary complexity of civic engagement: "In this category, we primarily recognize the civic engagement of companies and its impact on society. It is important how the commitment is strategically anchored in the company, how the cooperation with social partners is structured, how the employees are involved in the CSR activities and that a benefit is created both for the company and for society."
"Our social commitment in India, as well as in Nepal, Namibia and Brazil, is long-term," explains Bernhard Simon, CEO Dachser SE. "The youth exchange and the Kempten Action Week have promoted networking and mutual exchange within the company, but also among the citizens of Kempten, especially at a time when our society is having controversial discussions about migration. I am therefore delighted that our holistic concept of corporate social responsibility has been recognized by the jury today."
