Dachser expands in Bremen

The logistics facility is located in the freight village between the A281 and Neustädter Hafen and was expanded at a cost of eight million euros. It is intended to ensure an efficient connection between sea freight and land transportation.

Dachser's Bremen logistics center has expanded its handling area in recent months in order to be prepared for future growth. The hall extension for the European Logistics division now offers around 3300 square meters of additional space for handling industrial and consumer goods. The additional space on Senator-Blase-Straße was put into operation at the beginning of January.

With the hall extension, the Dachser logistics center Bremen European Logistics now has a total of 12,000 square meters of transshipment warehouse. Trucks can be loaded and unloaded at 132 gates in the hall, 30 of which are new. The total area of the logistics center is now almost 74,000 square meters. "We moved into the new area in the GVZ around six years ago, but now it was time to create more space in order to continue to meet the growing volume of shipments in Bremen," says Michael Schrader, General Manager European Logistics at Dachser in Bremen. "With the new building, we are well positioned for the future."

Part of the investment is the preparation for the use of electrically powered vehicles. Eight new charging points for electric cars and four charging points for electric trucks have been created for this purpose. An additional control center for driver support has also been created. Almost 200 people are currently employed at the Dachser branch in the GVZ.

Close integration with sea freight

Bremen is an important hub in the Dachser network. Over 350 people work for the logistics service provider at various locations in the city, including in the industrial and consumer goods and food sectors, as well as in offices for air and sea freight handling. The close integration between sea freight and overland transport, i.e. onward transportation by truck, is a particular feature of the Bremen site "We work very closely with our colleagues from Dachser Air & Sea Logistics here, everything interlocks," explains Michael Schrader. "This gives customers the advantage of receiving global logistics services from a single source, as the sea freight is fed directly into our land transportation network in Bremen and delivered to recipients throughout Europe. This makes the supply chains more predictable and efficient because we can manage all processes ourselves."

The Dachser location in Bremen, with its good infrastructure, is thus a so-called "Container Freight Station" in the Dachser transport network. The process flow for sea freight transportation is accelerated, as the sometimes considerable transit and reloading times of other busy major ports are eliminated. "In Bremen, we are particularly fast and flexible and always offer our customers an overview along the entire supply chain," explains Michael Schrader. Two warehouse locations for foodstuffs and industrial goods round off Dachser's offering in Bremen.
