Dachser and VCI extend for another five years
Dachser Chem-Logistics and the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) celebrated two occasions at the start of the second edition of the Dangerous Goods & Hazardous Substances trade fair: the 10th anniversary of the purchasing cooperation and a contract extension for a further five years.
The two sides launched their purchasing cooperation for European general cargo logistics in 2009. With the increasing internationalization of the chemical industry, the cooperation expanded in 2015 to include intercontinental air and sea freight services. Today, around 1,700 member companies belong to the VCI, which represents 90 percent of the turnover of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Germany. This makes the VCI one of the four largest industry associations in Germany.
"With Dachser Chem-Logistics, our members have a competent partner who handles their European logistics safely and can also supply the intercontinental markets from a single source," says Johann-Peter Nickel, Managing Director of the VCI, who appreciates the cooperation. Gisa Blach, who is responsible for purchasing cooperations at the VCI, adds: "With some sensitive products and numerous special legal regulations, the chemical industry places high demands on its partners, especially in terms of logistics. Finding a reliable partner with the necessary expertise is a decisive competitive advantage for German SMEs."
Commitment is rewarded
Accordingly, the logistics service provider and the association are looking forward to a positive partnership in the future. "We are delighted that the VCI appreciates our uncompromising commitment to the chemical industry," says Michael Kriegel, Department Head Dachser Chem-Logistics, commenting on the five-year contract extension. "With Dachser Chem-Logistics, we have created a specialized industry solution that centrally bundles expertise in chemical logistics and speaks the language of the chemical industry."
Dachser transported over 3.2 million shipments of chemical products in 2018. The logistics provider combines the standardized general cargo core services - transport, warehousing and IT solutions - with specific service modules for the chemical industry. Dachser ensures dangerous goods expertise at all levels with a combination of central dangerous goods management teams for land transportation and air and sea freight as well as around 200 regional dangerous goods officers in the operational branches. 24 branches in Europe are assessed according to the SQAS questionnaire of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) in the modules Transport Service and/or Warehouse.
