Logistics service providers: Container terminal on the Rhine is inaugurated

Strasbourg, 02.07.2018 - Friday saw the inauguration of the new container terminal in Lauterbourg and the opening of the R3FLEX logistics platform. The new terminal of the Port autonome de Strasbourg (PAS) is accessible via the Rhine, road and rail. Numerous high-ranking representatives from politics and business attended the celebrations. The new site specializes in container traffic and is intended to accommodate the increase in local container handling. The number of containers handled has roughly tripled since 2004.

"Lauterbourg is a strategic location on the banks of the Rhine, Europe's largest waterway and the most important freight transport corridor in Europe," explained Catherine Trautmann, Managing Director of PAS.

Employees, customers, partners and the service providers involved in the construction project attended the opening ceremony for the R3FLEX trimodal platform. The last trimodal terminal, a terminal that is accessible via three types of access, was inaugurated on the Upper Rhine almost 15 years ago. The reason for this is the scarce availability of building land on the banks of the Rhine.

Trautmann: "A space offering with this quality of service has become rare along the Rhine."

The terminal will have a handling capacity of 80,000 TEU per year. The R3FLEX industrial and logistics site will offer new prospects for companies operating across borders that use various means of transportation to transport goods
