Terminal extension
X-ray lines from Vanderlande at Charlotte Douglas International Airport
The new security checkpoints at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) will be equipped with automated X-ray lines from Vanderlande as part of a major terminal expansion project.
To increase operational capacity and provide a positive experience for its customers, the airport embarked on a $600 million terminal expansion project in December 2019. The project involves consolidating the airport's five security checkpoints into three highly efficient checkpoints, all equipped with Automated Screening Lanes (ASLs) to increase throughput and security. Vanderlande was selected through a competitive tender process to design and install the first five ASLs, which went live in December 2020.
The ASLs are supported by Vanderland's remote screening software. The ASLs allow CLT to centralize its screening operations and further improve operational efficiency. The modular design of the lines also facilitates the transition from AT X-ray to CT technology.
Vanderland's Executive Vice President Airports and Board Member Andrew Manship said: "We are proud to support CLT in its terminal expansion project. We look forward to building on this new collaboration that will help the airport achieve its goals and provide a seamless security screening experience for its passengers.
