"Fast, compact and powerful"

New Motoman PL palletizing robot series from Yaskawa

Large working area, optimum use of space and, above all, high throughput and short cycle times - these are the core characteristics of the Motoman palletizing robots in the PL series, with which Yaskawa aims to "once again become the industry leader".

The new series will initially focus on four models in the load capacity range between 190 kg and 800 kg and working ranges over 3 meters - this already covers the largest spectrum of high-performance palletizing tasks. Further models will be added to the series in summer 2021.

Newly tuned kinematics and the latest generation of Sigma7 drive technology ensure even better stability, payload and cycle times. Thanks to their compact design and small footprint, Motoman palletizing robots offer space utilization for the construction of very compact palletizing cells. Media cable packages for grippers can be connected to the robot base - protected and collision-free - and routed inside the arm through all axes and the hollow wrist. The diameter of the hollow shaft feed-through is 75 mm (PL190/320) or 100 mm (PL500/800).

PL series starts with four models
The range of PL series robot models now available starts with the Motoman PL190. It enables the automatic palletizing and depalletizing of boxes, cartons, bags and beverage crates with an output of over 1,700 cycles per hour (depending on the palletizing task) - and that with a payload of 190 kg. Thanks to the geared motors, the design no longer requires a counterweight balancer and is therefore compact. With its working range of 3,159 mm, the PL190 achieves a realistic pallet stacking height of over 2,600 mm. This means that either several pallets can be stacked at a great height or additional brackets can be omitted for floor mounting.

With the same kinematics and reach, the PL320, the heavy-duty version of the robot, achieves a maximum load capacity of 320 kg. The model is therefore also suitable for palletizing heavy sacks or containers. The two new heavy-duty palletizers PL500 and PL800 have a high payload range of up to 800 kg and can pick up complete product layers from a conveyor line or handle heavy products or packs. Control system, planning tools and programming All robots in the Motoman PL series work with the YRC1000 control system. The synchronized control of movements of functional grippers or tracks is also handled by the controller. The combination with the optional Functional Safety Controller (FSU) is ideal for safeguarding and reducing the size of compact work areas. With the MotoLogix interface, PLC system programmers can program the robot in their familiar IEC61131-compliant PLC programming environment at the same time. A special robot programmer is no longer necessary.
