BLG Logistics Group: BLG Logistics goes South Africa
3rd place in category 4: Logistics and transportation: BLG used an IT system to control two connected car terminals in South Africa, which are around 1,000 km apart.
At the end of 2021, a smooth transition to the "JC@rs" yard management system at an automotive manufacturer in Uitenhage and Kaalfontein had top priority. The transition phase was very tightly scheduled and took place during the coronavirus pandemic, making it almost impossible to deploy IT staff on site. For the BLG team, it was the first implementation of this IT system abroad and in a different language. JC@rs is the BLG Group's central tool that organizes vehicle handling and transport and also brings it to the rails. Thanks to the use of JC@rs, the management of vehicles at the terminals in South Africa has improved immensely. All stocks are now mapped digitally to the exact parking space and all customer-specific process steps are mapped digitally, which enables better planning of orders at the vehicles. By using the solution, BLG was able to win over the second largest OEM in South Africa and increase turnover by around 17 million euros. The recipe for success was a completely new management approach. The project broke down existing hierarchies and defined new responsibilities. Thanks to the solutions proposed by IT, it was possible to implement the project successfully. They were involved and were able to contribute their own suggestions.
