Chic automatic crane and buffer store at Hammerer

Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) manufactures high-quality aluminum profiles for the future topic of e-mobility at its site in Ranshofen with a high-end production line. With an automatic crane and a fully automated buffer warehouse, the SPS Group and Vollert ensure a damage-free material flow between the existing and the expanded production line.

The intralogistics specialists needed twelve months from planning to commissioning. Founded in 2007, the family-owned company Hammerer Aluminium Industries manufactures high-quality aluminum profiles for the mechanical engineering, electrical and automotive industries, among others, in addition to foundry products.

The project: A fully automated high-end production line was installed in a newly constructed 4,000 m² hall. "Fully automated production is the safest and gentlest solution in terms of damage-free transportation," says Dieter Schäfer, Project Manager at Vollert. "The HAI Group therefore also relies on a fully automated intralogistics solution for linking the new and existing production areas."

The profiles are stacked up to a length of eight meters in baskets weighing up to two tons. They are then transported via a chain conveyor from the existing production line to a buffer store above the new production line and from there, on call, for further processing. An automatic crane picks up the baskets from the chain conveyor and stacks up to three baskets on top of each other. The capacity of the intermediate storage facility is around 800 tons. When called upon, the crane makes the profile baskets available for further processing at the work stations. The SPS Group's control and warehouse management system is connected to HAI's central control system.
